Description: Victoria is a long established, popular variety producing an abundant yield of large thick red stalks. Excellent for baking into crumbles, pies and alchoholic beverages – said to be the best cooking variety. Sweet and mild. Recommended for it’s juicy and sweet flavours. The leaves are very attractive and atrovirens, but they have a level of oxalic acid so high in the leaves that they are slightly poisonous. An easy to grow, good low maintenance crop – performs well outside, well worth growing!
Rhubarb Growing Tips: Rhubarbs need an open, sunny site with moist, but free-draining soil. Avoid frost pockets as the stems are susceptible to frost. Do not harvest during the first year after planting as this will reduce the vigour. Once planted, it should not be moved and appreciates a generous annual mulch of well-rotted compost or manure.
