Damson Merryweather: An unusually large plum sized damson, both for dessert and culinary use. Reliable heavy crops of blue-black fruits that can be eaten fresh when fully ripe but also used for cooking. Yellow-greenish firm flesh, juicy with acidic flavour. Pick in early-September.
Gage Old Greengage: One of the best flavoured varieties. Produces heavy crops of green, red flushed fruits that have a greenish-yellow, sweet and delicious, tender flesh. An ideal dessert variety with its melting flesh and pleasant scent. Pick in mid-August.
Peach Peregrine: The most revered of all white fleshed peaches in the UK. Heavy, regular crops of white skinned flushed red fruits with an intense and rich flavour. Beautiful, dark pink blossoms early in the spring which also make it an attractive ornamental tree. Well suited to the UK climate. Pick in mid-August.
Plum Opal: A very reliable and good quality plum. Produces heavy crops of reddish-purple firm, round, tasty fruits. Flesh is golden yellow with a delicious slightly sweet flavour. White, scented flowers appear during the spring. One of the most reliable plum varieties for any garden. Pick in late-July.
The trees included in the Stone Fruit Collection are bare root one year old maidens on semi vigorous rootstock. Their eventual height can reach 3-4m depending on soil conditions and climate. As a bare root tree they will be despatched between November and March when they are dormant and will need pruning to the shape you require when planting.
