Description: Sanctus Hubertus is a relatively recent introduction. One of the best croppers of the early varieties although the fruits do need to ripen well before eating. The fruits are oval-shaped, dark red with thick, blue bloom and some small brown russet. Flesh is yellow with some red fibres around the stone. Flavour is rich but not very sweet. For the best flavours, ensure the fruit is fully ripe before eating fresh.

History: Raised by E. Swerts Grimmerlingen, Belgium and introduced in 1966 by N.V. Frugorex. Recieved an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993. The name Sanctus Hubertus comes from Saint Hubert, a Bishop of Leige in the 9th century. St Hubert is the patron saint of huntsmen since, according to legend, whilst out hunting one day when he should of been seeing to religious duties, he was visited by a stag bearing a crucifix to warn him of the consequences of neglecting his work.
