Description: Red Haven is a popular mid-season variety producing good crops of flavoursome fruits that have firm, yellow flesh of good quality. Skin is rosy pink, freestone. Best picked and eaten straight from the tree. The spring flowers are small and dark pink. An easy variety to grow showing some resistance to peach leaf curl. A particularly popular variety in southern counties in the UK.
History: Developed at the Michigan State Experiment Station in South Haven, USA by Stanley Johnston in the 1940s.
Peach Growing Tips: Suited to well-drained and moderately fertile soils in a full sun position. Fan training on a sheltered wall (except north facing) is recommended to avoid leaf curl. Picking times relate to growing under glass, therefore if planting outside at least two weeks need to be added. Early flowering outside makes these trees prone to frost damage. Fruit is best picked when still firm to final ripening indoors.
