Description: Red Filbert is a worthy selection that has striking long, claret red catkins and rich purple, heart-shaped foliage. Edible dark purple skinned fruits with an excellent flavour. Also listed in our Ornamental Section.
Filbert Growing Tips: Prefer to be planted in full sun or light shade with a sheltered position with no frost pockets. Will tolerate many soil types but are happier in light, sandy, well-drained soils. Make sure you harvest your crop before the squirrels get to them!
Pollination Partners: Hazel Gunslebert
