Description: Purple Pershore, also known as the Purple Plum is a very useful robust plum with good regular crops. The fruits are reddish purple with thick, blue bloom. Flesh is yellow, firm, not very juicy or sweet but good flavour for cooking and preserving. For cooking uses, pick the fruits when they are red. Beautiful white flowers arrive early in the spring. Some resistance to canker and silverleaf.
History: Raised by Walter Martin of Drake’s Broughton near Pershore, Worcestershire around 1877. A major market culinary plum in the Vale of Evesham area, although less grown today.
