Description: Prunus ‘Spring Snow’ is a compact, deciduous tree, vase shaped when young, maturing to a spreading tree. The ovate to elliptic leaves open a bronze tinted green and turn shades of orange and red in autumn. Clusters of blush white, double flowers appear like dustings of snow on the bare branches.
History: Selected by Masatoshi Asari in Hokkaido, Northern Japan in 1963 from seedlings of a hybrid between double-flowered P. verecunda and a P. lannesiana cultivar. Introduced to the UK in 2000. Also known as Prunus ‘Beni-tamanishiki’. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
Prunus (Flowering Cherry) Growing Tips: ‘Spring Snow’ is best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best flower display and autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk and clay.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 2.5m x 2.5m
