Description: ‘Royal Burgundy’ is a vase shaped tree, impressive for its contrasting rich burgundy leaves and deep rose pink double flowers. The leaves also turn a spectacular scarlet red in autumn.
History: Introduced from the USA as a sport of Prunus ‘Kanzan’ but considered worthy of a place within the Japanese cherry section. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
Prunus (Flowering Cherry) Growing Tips: ‘Royal Burgundy’ is best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best flower display and autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk and clay.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 5m x 3m
