Description: One of the showiest and best known varieties, with densely double, glowing purple/pink flowers in late April. The spring foliage is coppery red turning green and then orange in autumn. A strong growing tree, with an upright, spreading habit.
History: Introduced about 1913, and named after a Chinese mountain. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
Prunus Growing Tips: Best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best flower display and autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk and clay.
