Clay tolerant
Description: A small tree with stiffly ascending branches bearing long, narrow, green leaves that turn yellow before falling in autumn. The flowers are semi-double, mauve-pink in bud opening soft pink, contrasting with the purplish brown calyces. A very beautiful cultivar that is now rare, even in Japan.
History: Hõrin-ji is the name of the temple in Kyoto from where this variety originates. Introduced about 1935.
Prunus Growing Tips: Best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best flower display and autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk and clay.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 5m x 4m
