Description: Prunus ‘Crystal Falls’® is an outstanding, hardy, winter flowering cherry with unique densely double, dainty, pure white flowers and a very neat weeping habit. Flowering can often be up to 2 months from mid-December through to February and even later in cold winters. The flowers are very robust, sustaining very little damage to the flowers during subzero temperatures, frost damage. A remarkable P. x subhirtella plant breeding breakthrough for flower type and tree shape; ideal and great value for small spaces and for such a long flowering period.
History: Selected from a dedicated Prunus breeding programme in the UK. UK, breeders Dr Radovan Boskovic and Kenneth Tobutt. From the same breeding program as Prunus ‘Starlight’, parentage of Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis Rosea’.
Prunus Growing Tips: Best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best flower display and autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk and clay.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 2m x 2m
