Description: Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra’ is a neat round headed tree producing myriads of small pale pink flowers in late February and early March. The leaves are small and very dark purple, turning a brighter red in the autumn before falling.
History: In cultivation since 1916. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 1993.
Prunus Growing Tips: Best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best flower display and autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk, and clay.
