Description: Peter’s Gold™ is an excellent late keeping dessert. Picking in late October/early November with good vigour, profuse flowering and consistent crops of perfectly round golden apples with an occasional attractive pink flush. Natural storage will extend eating well into the new year. The mid season, large, attractive pink to white flowers have a degree of frost resistance and with good spur bearing properties the tree is very easy to prune and shape. Flesh is firm, sweet and dense with a good crunch typical of a Braeburn and the complex flavour offers the aromatics of a Cox’s Orange Pippin with a slight citrus background for good measure.
History: This superb apple was raised in Essex by Peter Seabrook who passed away in 2022. Many will know him as the ‘original gardening superhero’. Peter worked tirelessly on behalf of the gardening public all his life and was a wonderful broadcaster and journalist. Latterly he set up Floral Fantasia at RHS Garden Hyde Hall as a display and trials area to inspire gardeners and as a facility for training and education.
This continues in his memory, courtesy of the RHS. A donation from the sale of each tree will go to the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation.
