Description: Orleans Reinette is a high quality dessert apple, primarily a garden variety. Large golden-yellow fruit flushed red with short, broken rather indistinct red stripes. Flesh is creamy white, firm and fine textured and a juicy, nutty, sweet blenheim-like flavour. Early fruit can be cooked, their slices keep shape and it makes a sweet baked apple.
History: Probably a French origin. First described in 1776. Received an Award of Merit in 1914 (as Winter Ribston) and an Award of Merit in 1921 (as Orleans Reinette) from the Royal Horticultural Society.
