Description: Morello is by far the most popular cooking cherry. Very hardy and very reliable cropping. An acid flavour. It can be picked at the very sour, dark red stage for stewing or it can be left until almost black and bitter-sweet.Ideal for north walls and makes the most delicious cherry pie, just add ice cream! Very attractive white spring blossom! ‘Nabella’ is often available which is another good sour cherry with slightly larger fruit.
History: An old Kentish breed, it’s exact origins are unknown. Received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
