Syn: M. ‘Directeur Moorlands’

Description: Malus Profusion Improved, as the name suggests is an improved version of the popular Malus ‘Profusion’ as it is more disease resistant. Coppery red foliage when young, turns a dark forest green before yellow/bronze in the autumn. Reddish purple flowers are produced in April followed by persistent, deep purple fruits in autumn.

History: Also known as Malus ‘Directeur Moerlands’. Named after Carolus Philippus Moerlands, who was Director of the School of Horticulture at Boskoop in the Netherlands in the early 20th century.

Malus Growing Tips: Crab Apples are self-fertile, and very useful as pollinators for a variety of fruit trees. Full sun or part shade lover, best grown in fertile, moist, deep, loamy soils. Requires minimal pruning in late winter or spring to remove damaged, diseased or misplaced growth.
