Description: An open irregular spreading, vase shaped tree with stiff ascending branches. The fragrant flowers are soft pink in bud opening to white, produced in great abundance May to June. Small fruits usually deep red on cultivated plants.
History:Â Native to China and the Himalayan Mountains. Introduced to the U.S by the Arnold Arboretum through seeds collected by E.H Wilson in 1908 in Ichang, Western Hupei, China.
Malus Growing Tips:Â Crab Apples are self-fertile, and very useful as pollinators for a variety of fruit trees. Full sun or part shade lover, best grown in fertile, moist, deep, loamy soils.Â
