M. sieboldii x M. halliana

Description: A small compact tree with scented apple blossom flowers. The fruits resemble the perfect miniature apples persisting well into November. Ideal for tangy pink crab apple jelly.

History: Introduced by Hayward Wright, Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand in 1925.

Malus Growing Tips: Crab Apples are self-fertile, and very useful as pollinators for a variety of fruit trees. Full sun or part shade lover, best grown in fertile, moist, deep, loamy soils. Requires minimal pruning in late winter or spring to remove damaged, diseased or misplaced growth.
