Full Description

Description: This variety is quite special as its abundant, small, glossy, bright red fruits persist well into February in most years. A strong growing round-headed tree eventually reaching 6m by 6m with dark green leaves. The pink buds open to white, single flowers in spring.

History: A spontaneous seedling first noticed at the Arnold Arboretum prior to 1950. Named after Donald Wyman, former horticulturist at the Arnold Arboretum.

Malus Growing Tips: Crab Apples are self-fertile, and very useful as pollinators for a variety of fruit trees. Full sun or part shade lover, best grown in fertile, moist, deep, loamy soils. Requires minimal pruning in late winter or spring to remove damaged, diseased or misplaced growth.
