Full Description

Description: An unusual form of crab apple related to Malus ‘Charlottae’ with single, large, soft pink flowers and bright, rich green, mini Granny Smith type crab apples. Excellent autumn tints to the large and handsome leaves.

History: Discovered by A.W Keays growing near Elk River, north of Minneapolis, MN. Introduced in 1930 by Niels E. Hansen, South Dakota Agriculture Experimental Station, Brookings.

Malus Growing Tips: Crab Apples are self-fertile, and very useful as pollinators for a variety of fruit trees. Full sun or part shade lover, best grown in fertile, moist, deep, loamy soils. Requires minimal pruning in late winter or spring to remove damaged, diseased or misplaced growth.
