Description: Magnolia ‘Royal Star’ is a superior form of Magnolia stellata with pale silvery-pink buds opening to a clear white, touched with pink each with up to twenty five tepals. Flowers larger and later than other stellata types.
History: Selected by John Vermuelen. Seedling of M. stellate ‘Waterlily’. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 2012.
Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 4m x 3m
