Description: Magnolia salicifolia ‘Mount Hakkoda’ is a special selection of the willow leaved magnolia. Floppy white star shaped petalled flowers similar to ‘Wada’s Memory’. Attractive, glaucous green foliage that when crushed offers the scent of aniseed and verbena. A deciduous tree, conical when young, later broad-crowned.
Parentage: M. kobus x M. salicifolia
Origin: Japan Honshu (mainly W), Kyushu, Shikoku
Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
