Description: A magnificent small to medium sized tree with dark green foliage. Tulip shaped, heavily flushed dark pink or rose-purple flowers with a magenta stripe at the base. Richly scented this is one of the finest of the ‘Gresham Hybrids’.
History: M. liliiflora ‘Nigra’ x M. veitchii. Bred by Todd Gresham. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 1993.
Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 4m x 3m
