Description: ‘Kay Parris’ is a compact, evergreen, upright growing Magnolia making a slender evergreen shrub like tree when mature. Glossy deep green, wavy edged leathery, oblong-elliptic leaves, are rich rusty brown beneath. Plentiful, highly fragrant, large cup shaped creamy white flowers are produced from summer to autumn.
Parentage: M. grandiflora ‘little Gem’ x M. grandiflora ‘Brackens Brown Beauty’
History: Named by Kevin Parris. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 2012.
Magnolia Growing Tips: Full sun to part shade lover, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Provide sheltered site as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds, and late frosts. Shape and size can be controlled by pruning which should be done either immediately after flowering or during late summer.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 4m x 3m
