Description: Large tree with a narrow pyramidal crown, densely branching, even when mature, the grey bark has shallow grooves. Deeply cut, star shaped leaves are glossy green in summer, transforming to vivid red and scarlet in autumn for a magnificent display. Insignificant purple-red flowers are followed by spiky fruit capsules for further interest.
Liquidambar Growing Tips: Liquidambar should be planted in full sun to achieve their best colour, in neutral to acid soil that is moist but well-drained. Once the trees mature, they tolerate occasional drought as well as periodic flooding. Protect from frost when young.
Height and Spread (after 20 years): 8m x 4m
