Description: Jargonelle is one of the hardiest and longest lived pears, making a majestic tree. Pale yellow with brownish-red flush on some fruits. The pale yellow flesh is tender and juicy with a musky flavour. Performs well in the north if on a sheltered wall. Like many earlies it can drop from the tree unexpectedly, so timings of picking is important.
History: It’s exact origins are unknown but it was first mentioned in 1629 by Parkinson. Thought to be a lot older.
