Description: Honeycrisp is a very attractive, high quality dessert apple. This all American favourite variety produces impressive large and particularly striking looking individual apples. Light greenish yellow flushed reddish-orange with strong hints of pink and slight russet. The texture is coarse and crisp, slightly fizzy and the flavour is mild and sweet. One of it’s particularly good features is that the fruit stores well into March in normal garden shed conditions. Also good for salad fruit, is non browning and holds its shape during cooking. Very much available in supermarkets. Sometimes can be known as ‘Honeycrunch’.
History: Developed in the 1960’s by the University of Minnesota and later introduced in the 1990’s. One of the objectives was to breed a variety that can tolerate cold winters in the USA. Apple Keepsake was proved to be one of Honeycrips’ parents in 2017 after further analyses.
