The broad, hazel-like leaves emerge yellowish green flushed maroon, turning deep green in summer, and in autumn turn brilliant yellow and orange. From early to late winter, slightly twisted, spidery, scented flowers emerge on the bare branches, at first yellow-orange, later turning amber, orange and red, against the purple-red calyxes.
History: A seedling from H. mollis, pollinated by H. japonica, raised by Heinrich Bruns in Germany and originally distributed under the name ‘Orange’.
Hamamelis (Witch Hazel) Growing Tips: This small tree will thrive in any reasonable soil, but prefering neutral to acid conditions. Shelter from cold winds.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 4m x 4m
