Description: Galloway Pippin is a dual-purpose apple with a large, yellow russet freckle finish. A deliciously sharp eater, and keeps its shape well when cooked but is best eaten before Christmas. Flesh is creamy white, firm juicy and crisp with a rich, sharp, slightly perfumed flavour. Primarily a garden variety that is reccomended for northern areas.
History: Believed to have come from Wigtown, Galloway, Scotland. First brought to notice in 1871 but it is thought to be much older. A First Class Certificate of Royal Horticultural Society was awarded in 1871.
