Parentage: Cox’s Orange Pippin x Wealthy
Description: Fortune is a very high quality, mid season dessert apple which is quite similar to Cox’s Orange Pippin. Pale green-yellow in colour with broken bright red stripes and small russet patches. It’s flesh is creamy white, moderately firm with a rather coarse-textured, juicy, sweet aromatic flavour. Best left on the tree for as long as possible to allow the colour flavour to develop. Also known as ‘Laxton’s Fortune’.
History: Raised by Laxton Brothers Ltd. at Bedford, England in 1904. Received First Class Certificate from Royal Horticultural Society in 1948. Formerly grown commercially, especially in Worcestershire, but now is a valued garden fruit and confined to farm shops.
