Description: Corylus avellana ‘Red Ghost’® is a fine selection of the purple-leaved Filbert. With the leaves retaining their dark purple/red colour all the way through the summer and into the autumn. Most purple leaved hazels do turn green leaved in the summer but this one is very special retaining its colour throughout the season. It has the added benefit of producing edible nuts in the autumn. A productive cropper, the nuts have frilly husks to add to the attraction. Pink catkins in spring.
History: Holland.
Corylus avellana ‘Red Ghost’® Growing Tips: As with most Corylus will grow in a wider range of soils, sites and situations and is hardy. Preferring a moist, well-drained site. For the best foliage colour, plant in full sun.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 4m x 2m
