Description: Known as the wedding cake tree, because of its distinctive, horizontal, tiered habit, this tree makes a lovely focal point for a small to medium-sized garden. It has bright green leaves with bold, creamy white margins, which turn red-purple in autumn. Creamy white clusters of flowers appear in May-June followed by blue/black fruit that create additional seasonal interest. A spectacular tree that gets better with age.
History: Introduced in about 1880 by Veitch’s Nursery of Exeter. Received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
Cornus Growing Tips: Thrives in fertile, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil. Unsuitable for shallow, chalky soils.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 3m x 3m
