Apple Dabinett: The most reliable cider variety. Skin is yellow-greenish flushed pinkish-red, smooth and waxy. Has a bittersweet juice that produces a high-quality, medium-dry cider on it’s own. Flesh is greenish-white, sweet and astringent. A beautiful cluster of pinkish-white blossom in the spring. Pick in early November.
Apple Harry Masters Jersey: A traditional English cider apple. Greenish yellow in colour, freckled and slightly striped dark red. Flesh is white, hard and dry and produces a full bitter-sweet tasting juice with a soft astringency. A regular, reliable cropper. Pick in early October.
Apple Kingston Black: A high-quality English cider apple. Small yellow-green fruit flushed dark red, almost black. Flesh is reddened, sometimes white; dry, rich and fruity. Produces a good bitter sharp juice that makes a fine single vintage cider with a distinctive flavour. Pick in early November.
Apple Three Counties: Produces beautiful, golden-flushed cylindrical fruit with crimson flecks and pale spots. Its flavour features a robust astringency that balances sweetness with low acidity. With a strong, upright shape and vigorous growth, it’s perfect for close planting. Regular, heavy harvests in late September.
The trees included in the Cider Apple Collection are bare root one year old maidens on semi vigorous rootstock. Their eventual height can reach 3-4m depending on soil conditions and climate. As a bare root tree they will be despatched between November and March when they are dormant and will need pruning to the shape you require when planting.
