Description: Black Hamburgh, also known as ‘Trollinger’ and ‘Schiava Grossa’, is a reliable and excellent quality sweetwater type of indoor vine. Produces large bunches of high quality dessert grapes that are juicy and sweet with delicious flavour, suitable for eating or wine-making. The fruit won’t ripen until late October, so can be damaged by an early frost. One of the easiest varieties to grow due to it’s reliable and strong habit, so perfect for beginners!

History: Originates from Germany. Famously planted by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown at Hampton Court Palace in 1768 and now the great vine is over 36 metres and produces an annual crop of up to 700 bunches of grapes.

Indoor Vine Growing Tips: It’s best grown indoors in an unheated greenhouse. Place potted vines outdoors in winter to get sufficient cold. Water frequently during the growing season, and feed with high potash liquid fertiliser once growth starts. Pollination needs a dry atmosphere. Gently shaking branches aids pollination.
