Description: Black Dabinett is a sport of Dabinett but slightly more vigorous, picking later with a darker purple flush. Produces late, bittersweet cider apples that are slightly larger than any other cider variety. Makes a delicious full-bodied cider without needing to be mixed with other apples. A healthy tree being resistant to scab and brown rot.
History: Discovered from Kingsbury Episcopi in Somerset. The original Dabinett tree was raised in Martock, Somerset during 19th Century. Found as a seedling in a hedge in Middle Lambrook by Mr William Dabinett, thought to be a seedling on Chisel Jersey.
