Self-fertility: Partially self-fertile
Description: Chestnut Belle Epine is a French variety with shiny, mahogany brown coloured nuts. Mid to late season cropping with fast to medium growth rate. Partially self-fertile, a good pollen producer and good pollinator. Can pollinate Marron de Lyon and Marigoule.
History: France
Chestnut Growing Tips: Happier planted on lighter soils, acid to neutral is best, avoid chalk if possible. They dislike waterlogged soils, which can encourage ‘ink disease’ symptoms. Make sure you harvest the nuts daily to avoid the attention of hungry vermin!
