Apple Hidden Rose This apple offers a tart, subtly sweet flavour like strawberry lemonade, with crisp, juicy pink-red flesh and a vibrant blush. Less susceptible to scab than other varieties. Pick in late October. Discovered as a seedling in Oregon, USA in the 1960s.
Apple Honeycrisp All American favourite dessert apple known for its large, striking appearance. With a crisp, slightly fizzy texture and mild sweetness, it stores well, resists browning, and holds its shape during cooking. Developed in the 1960’s by the University of Minnesota. Pick in late October.
Gage Dennistons Superb Also known as ‘Imperial Gage’ is the most reliable cropping gage. Pale green skin, fruits are large and round. Transparent sweet flesh with a classic gage-like rich flavour, moderately juicy and sweet. Raised at Prince’s Nursery, Albany, New York, USA around 1790. Pick in early August.
Pear Gorham A popular, reliable variety producing pale green fruits that turn yellow with russet patches. Its creamy, juicy flesh has a sweet musky flavour. The upright, self-fertile tree is an excellent pollinator. Raised in New York, USA in 1910 by Richard Wellington. Pick in late September.
The trees included in the American Fruit Tree Collection are bare root one year old maidens on semi vigorous or vigorous rootstock. Their eventual height can reach 3-4m depending on soil conditions and climate. As a bare root tree they will be despatched between November and March when they are dormant and will need pruning to the shape you require when planting.
