Description: Amelanchier x grandiflora ‘Ballerina’ is a small tree with an upright habit. Finely toothed leaves are a highly attractive bronze colour when young, turning green in the summer and reddish purple in autumn creating an outstanding display. A great profusion of pure, large white flowers are borne in April. Fruits are small red berries, turning deep purple but soon taken by birds!
History: Originated from the Netherland from plants sent from Hillier Nurseries in 1970. Received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Amelanchier Growing Tips: They will thrive in moist, well-drained, lime-free soil. The best autumn colour is achieved when they’re planted in a full sun position but they do tolerate partial shade.
