Description: Acer tataricum ‘Hot Wings’ is a deciduous, upright, spreading tree with bright green leaves, turning yellowy orange to bright red in autumn. In the spring, clusters of yellow-white flowers cover the tree. Scarlet red samaras (helicopters) contrast with the rich green foliage before the leaves change in autumn.
History: Appeared as a chance-seedling found growing in the production fields of Fort Collins Wholesale Nursery at Fort Collins, CO in 1993.
Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 4m x 3m
