Description: Acer rubrum ‘Sun Valley’ is a medium sized tree which is a cousin of Acer rubrum ‘Somerset’ with long lasting autumn colours. It’s favoured for its bright, colourful foliage that bursts into fiery shades of red and orange in the autumn. A vigorous grower when young with a symmetrical ovate crown in later life. Even though late to colour this is still a week before Acer rubrum ‘October Glory’.
History: Introduced by the US National Arboretum.
Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
Height and Spread (after 10 years) : 6m x 4m
