Description: Acer rubrum ‘Red Sunset’, also known as ‘Franksred’ is very similar to the other rubrum varieties but with more of an upright habit. The three lobed leaves turn to a brilliant orange-reddish colour in the autumn. Small, red flowers appear during the spring adding an extra stunning feature to this tree. Perfect for large gardens or public spaces such as parks.
History: Introduced in 1968 in America.
Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
Height and Spread (after 10 years) : 6m x 4m
