Description: Acer palmatum ‘Orange Dream’ is a lovely slow-growing cultivar, similar to Acer palmatum ‘Katsura’ with an upright and bushy habit. Selected for its refreshing spring coloured foliage. Its seven lobed young leaves emerge fresh orange, quickly becoming a lemon yellow colour with orange tinged margins and tips. The leaves retain their colour until they change yellowish green in the summer, often still with red tints edging the leaves. The autumn colours are bright yellow-gold turning crimson.
History: Introduced by Fratelli Gilardelli Nursery, near Milan, Italy in 1990. Received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
Height and Spread (after 10 years) : 3m x 2m
