A strong growing maple which develops finely dissected, purple leaves that resemble the colour of a garnet stone. Holds its colour well before turning shades of rich red creating a striking display in the autumn. Ideal for small gardens or planting in a large container.
History: Raised in the Netherlands in 1950. Received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
