Description: Acer palmatum ‘Enkan’ is a small, upright, outstanding strap-leaved cultivar. A lovely little palmatum variety with wine red deeply lobed foliage in the spring turning into bright shades of red in the autumn. Very similar to the variety ‘Red Pygmy’, also introduced by Firma C. Esveld but holds it’s colour better in the summer months. Perfect for small gardens or planting in a large container.
History: Introduced to Europe in 1991 by Cor van Gelderen of Firma C. Esveld, Boskoop, Netherlands.
Acer Growing Tips: Very easy to grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. They thrive in sun but with partial shade to protect the leaves from scorch. A sheltered area away from strong winds is preferred.
Height and Spread (after 10 years) : 3m x 2m
